Miter Gauge
Most table saws come equipped with a standard
T-square miter gauge for
crosscutting that is made up of a miter bar that rides in a groove that goes
from the front to back of the table, and runs parallel to the blade. These
grooves are used to hold and guide a miter gauge. These miter gauges also have
an adjustable protractor head. To cut at an angle, you align the angle scale
on the protractor head with a cursor that is attached to the bar.
The miter gauge is typically set to a 90-degree angle to the blade, so that
cuts are made at a right angle, although you can adjust the miter gauge to cut
at any angle you want.
Aftermarket miter gauges are far more accurate for cutting angles then the
standard miter gauges that comes with most table saws. If you want to cut
precision angles should consider purchasing one.
