Hybrid
Table Saws
Hybrid table saws are intended to compete with top
of the line contractor table saws. They have a few of the
advantages of a cabinet saw, but at a reduced price. The cabinet on a hybrid
saw is enclosed to increase dust collection. The cabinets can either be the
same as that of a cabinet saw with a full enclosure, or a smaller cabinet on
legs. A number of hybrid saws come with cabinet-mounted trunnions and others
come with table-mounted trunnions. Hybrid saws are heavier than contractor
saws, but lighter than a cabinet saw. Some hybrid saws come with an optional
sliding table to improve its cross cutting ability. A hybrid’s saw drive
mechanism can vary more than that of a contractor saw or cabinet saw. The
drive device can be a lone v-belt, multiple v-belts, or a serpentine belt.
