Installing A Short Section Of Baseboard

Project Overview:

Short sections of trim require short pieces of baseboard. Cut both ends square and make the piece 1/32 inch short so irregularities won’t keep it from sitting flat. Nail the piece in place and cope the piece on the adjoining wall. You then must miter and cope the end that will sit against the wall. Next, you will measure, cut and install the baseboard.

Step 1

MITER AND COPE

Miter and cope. Cut a miter in the end that will go against the second wall. Cope it to fit.

Step 2

MEASURE, CUT, AND INSTALL

Measure, cut, and install. Measure the length of the wall, adding an extra 1/16 inch to any piece over 8 feet, and an extra 1/8 inch to any piece of 12 feet. Lay out the length on the baseboard, and cut it to length with a square cut at the end opposite the cope. Nail the baseboard to the wall.
