The Nursery
How exciting to having a new member to the family arrive. The
first thought before the arrival is joy
and thankfulness and then it turns to
where will the nursery be and how will we decorate the nursery.
Once you have decided where the nursery is to be then you will want to
choose colors and furniture.
If you do not know the gender of the baby you will want to use neutral
colors when decorating the nursery. You may want to wait until you know the
gender before decorating the nursery but then that is not always the best as
you will want any noxious fumes gone by the time the new arrival comes home.
Safety for the child should be the main consideration when decorating your
nursery.
Nowadays there is no need to restrict the colors for your nursery based on
the old traditional belief that pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Yes it
is true pink is associated with girls and blue is associated with boys but the
exposure to color is the first experience your child will have with color.
One of the more popular trends for decorating a nursery is stenciling. You
can usually pick up stencils at any crafting or hobby store. You can also get ideas by checking online to get some
ideas.
Once the walls are done it is time to choose the furniture. I do not
recommend using heirloom furniture in your child's room. The reason for this
is that there was no restrictions or safety regulations before 1960. Your best
bet is either new or newer furniture.
Once you have finished with the furniture for the new arrival it is time to
think about your space. Yes that means the old fashioned rocker where at 4 in
the morning you will be rocking away. Now I do not recommend a wooden rocker,
I suggest a nice comfortable swivel rocker knowing that at 4 in the morning
you will thank me for this thought.
When buying your accessories I recommend that you do not buy anything with
small parts. Even when it comes to those sweet and cuddly stuffed animals make
sure there are no small parts that can be harmful to your new arrival.
