Decorative Painting Trade Secrets

Make sure that the walls to be painted are sealed and primed. An easy test is to cover the walls surface with water. If the water is soaks in, the wall is unsealed. Prime and paint the walls. The result you want to accomplish is a visual improvement to your walls. The selection of color is one of the more vital essentials. For the best outcome, practice your technique on a board first. That way you can see how your color selections work together before you spend your time and effort on the final project.

When you are selecting colors play it safe, you should choose colors from the same color family (monochromatic.) If you are choosing various hues, you should keep the color choices in the same tonal value; or else one color will try to dominate.

It is an individual choice whether you should paint with dark colors or light. The majority of people seem to favor dark to light, but you decide.

Let your base coat of paint dry for a minimum of 48 hours until applying your decorative finish. Use the correct painters tape, which is intended for decorative, finishes. This tape will prevent your paint from seeping underneath, and will not pull off the paint from beneath.

The secret to a professional looking finish is getting inside the corners. Adapt a tool to fit, for example for Frottage, merely crumple some smaller pieces of brown paper and then pull the paint off in those hard-to-reach areas.

Have a friend help you. A painting technique goes faster this way. While one person does the job of rolling on the top coat whilst the other person follows doing the painting technique. You should work on a 3' - 4' width at one time, when using a negative technique.

Start in the corner of the room that will be the least noticed when you are in the room.

If the top coat sets up too quickly when using a latex glaze, simply mist the area with water.

If you make an error with your technique, it is easy to repair. Just repeat the technique over the error with he base color.
