Securing Your Windows And Doors

Secure your windows with at least one good lock. After you install a window lock, drop a little solder into the slots of the screw heads. This will prevent a thief from removing the lock. Also, install an alarm system, and impact resistant glass. When you install window locks, it is important to keep a key close to the window where your children can get to it, but a burglar cannot gain access to it, in case of a fire.

A door that has glass panels should be changed, or secured using deadbolts that you can only open with a key. To help secure your home, install a 1-inch throw deadbolt lock on all your exterior doors. A door that has too much of a cap between the frame and door is an open invitation for a thief to employ a jimmy. Strengthen this type of door by fastening a sheet of 3/4 in plywood or a section of sheet metal to it.

If your door hinges face the outside of your house, remove the door and place the hinges so that they face the inside.

If not all a burglar has to do to get in to your house is remove the hinge pins.

It is simple for a thief to get his way through rot. Replace rotted doorframes with new solid wood.

You can secure your patio doors by putting a metal bar or pipe in the bottom track of the door slide. The piece of wood or pipe must be the same length end to end as the track..
