Mowing Your Lawn - The first grass mowing of the season should be a bit lower than you would normally mow your lawn during the season this will clean up any winter buildup. During the remainder of the season, the best height for your grass depends on the kind of grass you are growing.

Mow your lawn often so you do not cut off more than one third of the height of the grass in one cutting.

Make sure that the mower blade is kept sharp. If your lawn mower blade is dull, you can end up bruising the ends of your grass. This can cause your lawn to develop a grayish-brown hue.

The cutting pattern of your mower makes a difference if your mower leaves tire marks. If your mower does compress the soil as you mow, mow your lawn alternating the pattern to prevent leaving marks on your lawn.
