Duct Cleaning
Ever had your ducts cleaned and wondered if the
company really
did clean them or did they just blow the dust around and leave.
The national air duct cleaners association and the EPA have stated that
cleaning your system and doing a proper job should take no less that 4 hours
and as much as 8 hours to do a complete job. If a company comes in to clean
your ducts and does it in less than 4 hours you may want to check on the job
they did.
When checking around for a company that will clean your ducts do not choose
one that will do it in a short period of time and for a very low price. These
companies are referred to as blo-n-go companies. The work is totally
unacceptable. Remember cleaning your ducts should take between 4 and 8 hours.
Most people think that only the primary vents and ducts need cleaning but
this is not so. To get a thorough duct cleaning you must include any internal surface which air moves across. You
duct cleaning must also include the conveyance compartment of the furnace or
air conditioner, the heat exchanger, AC coils, drain pan, blower, filter
housing and any air cleaning equipment you might have installed on the furnace
or air conditioner.
An efficient duct cleaning company will put your entire system under a
negative air (vacuum) by means of a powerful vacuum system that produces no
less than 2000 cubic feet of high pressure air snakes and rotating brushes and
whips which are driven by a compressor that deliver at least 175 psi @ 12 - 16
cfm.
