Draft Proofing Your Home

A draft is basically cold air getting into the house and replacing the warmer air. If you can stop these drafts you will reduce your heating bill and have a warmer and more comfortable home.

You can have drafts coming in thru gaps or around doors and windows double glazed windows.

Look for moving curtains or feeling around doors and windows for cold air. You can also hold a match or lighter by the door or window and see if it flickers as if there is a wind or draft effecting it.

If you double glazed windows try and replace them with more up to date windows. This will help to reduce your heating bill big time. The reduction in noise and air pollution will give you a greater sense of privacy. By replacing your windows you are making a contribution to reducing the pollution and helping our environment.

Check around all your doors. Often you will find a gap between the door and door frame. They also come with mail flaps, cat flaps, keyholes and so on. You should look to be closing up any gaps or holes around the door including your cat flaps and mail slots. Try the runner strips that screw onto the bottom and inside the door. This will help enormously.

Now take a look and see if you can reduce the heating bill in your home.
