Area Rugs

The most common area rug size is the 4' x 6 ' and the 4 ' x 9 '. This size area rug works great for under coffee tables, perhaps on a hardwood or laminate floor.

Another larger size is the 8 ' x 10 ' area rug. Depending on your room they will cover either a large amount of floor space or perhaps the whole room.

In deciding to use an area rug you must know the size of the area to be covered. Smaller area rugs are great for areas such as hearths, beside a bed, by the kitchen sink or they can be used to just ad color and warmth by using color.

In a living room you most likely would place the area rug in front of the sofa and under the coffee table.

If you are thinking of placing an area rug on hardwood floors you would want to make sure that you leave a border of hardwood floor about 8 inches or 20 centimeters around the area rug.

It is acceptable to use more than one area rug. If you a placing an area rug in the dining room make sure that if you pull out the chairs them both feet of the chair remain on the rug.
