How To Use And Care For Your Paintbrush
The wide brushes used for exterior painting require a heavy grip, much as a
tennis racket. Hold smaller trim brushes as you would a pencil. Before getting
paint or stain on the brush, condition it. For latex paints dampen the
brush with water; remove the excess moisture by gently striking the metal
band around the handles base over the edge of your palm and into a sink
or pail. For alkyd paint, soak the brush for a day in a can of linseed oil
this will prolong the life of your paintbrush, and make it easier to clean.
Never dip a brush more than about one-third of the length of the bristles
into the paint.
To remove excessive paint gently tap the brush against the inside of the
paint can or lightly drag it across the lip of the can.
