How To Choose A Home Builder

Okay you have decided to build your own home congratulations. Now you have to choose a home builder.  What are you looking for , a company that builds many homes at one time or  are you wanting someone to work solely on your house until it is finished giving you a distinct look that is unique to you. A company that will take the time to listen to what you want and explain your homes systems and equipment.

When you choose a home builder you should know that a production  home builder  typically tend to use stock plans. They usually have a variety  of options to choose from.

They usually own the land where they are building  houses such as a development. They produce houses in the mass usually around 200 a year.

Custom home builders may build fewer homes, somewhere around 20 or less a year but they usually build one of a kind houses. They will build on either your land or a builders land. They are known for building higher end homes.

A production builder may build your house faster for you and at less cost but they rarely do custom design or unique features.

When choosing your home builder try asking yourself these questions.

How long do you plan to live in the house. Is this your dream house or do you plan to move on in several years depending on how things go? Maybe you would do better with a production builder and wait until you are ready for that dream home.

Do you want any special features? Production builders are expensive in this case.

Do you want a unique and distinct home? I think your best bet here would be the custom builder.

No matter who you choose to build your home do not be shy. Ask for references from past clients. Contact the references and find out if they are satisfied with the workmanship. Find out what it was like to work with that particular builder and if their expectations and tastes were met. Visit a worksite and check out the quality of workmanship for yourself.

Last but not least  look for a professional builder who builds homes for a living full time and has a vision and style that either matches your own or is very similar.
