Air Purifiers

Q: Do I really need an air purifier or am I needlessly worrying about the air in my house?

A: It all depends on the quality of air in your home or office. You must also take into consideration your comfort level, and whether or not you or any of your family members are suffering from any of the symptoms caused by poor air quality and lack of ventilation in your home or office.

Many health organizations are now saying that the indoor air we breath in, is often far worse than the quality of the air outdoors. Many people find the dust, smoke, pet dander and other indoor allergens and irritants are worse in the house than it is outdoors. Especially in newer homes that have more insulation and are sealed better.

If you or any family member is suffering from any of the symptoms on the following list this may be an indication that you need an air purifier and better ventilation in your home or office.

  • Itchy eyes watery eyes and a runny nose.
  • Dry itchy skin or skin rashes
  • Breathing problems such as asthmas
  • Being a smoker
  • Living with a smoker
  • have indoor pets
  • have mold or mildew in your home of office
Q: Are all air purifiers the same?

A: No.. not all air purifiers are the same. They will all clean certain particulates from the air, but they clean differently.

Some air purifiers will remove dust, pet dander and smoke , while others eliminate bacteria, viruses, molds and
mildew. Very few air purifiers do everything. Be sure to read up on air purifiers and ask the sales person.

Q: What size air purifier is good for my home?

A: To do the whole  house you would need an air purification unit installed on the furnace or air conditioner. Portable room air purifiers like the one pictured here are good for the room they are located in, but you would need a air purifier in each individual room or living space.

To determine the size of an air purifier look for the CADR number on the unit. The CADR on an air purifier indicates the Clean Air Delivery Rate. The CARR should equal 2/4 the total sq footage of the room where it will be located. A 10' x12' room has 120'sq feet and needs an air purifier with a CADR of at least 80.

Popular brands of air purifiers include Oreck, Lennox, and Hunter.
