Air Conditioners Maintenance
A regular cleaning of your air conditioner is about the only thing that
needs to be done. For other types of maintenance, a professional air
conditioner service person is required. A regular cleaning of your air
conditioner will prolong its life and keep your air conditioner running
smoothly.
Because the condenser sits outdoors it accumulates dirt and dust, which
needs to be removed periodically. The condenser should be cleaned with an
industrial coil cleaner that is made for cleaning your air conditioner’s
condenser.
To clean the fins on the condenser use a
flexible brush do not use a hard bristle brush because it can damage the fins
on the condenser. Remove any grime and dust from the fins. Never clean your
air conditioner fins with water. Doing this will compact any grime and dust
causing it to be come stuck between the fins. Use care when you clean the
fins, because they are made out of lightweight aluminum and can be easily
damaged. If the fins get bent, straighten then with a fin comb, that you can
purchase at a store that sells appliance parts.
Use a carpenter's level to make sure that the concrete pad under the
condenser is level.
If the pad has shifted, lift the concrete pad with a piece of two by four
and shove some rocks or gravel beneath the concrete pad to bring it back into
a level position. This will increase the life of your air conditioner, and
keep it running efficiency.
Protect your air conditioner during the fall and winter with a thick piece
of plastic, held in place with a strong piece of rope or a condenser cover
made to fit the shape of your air conditioner.
Keep away cut grass, weeds, vines, or dryer lint that could
grow around the condenser and obstruct the flow of air.
